Our Remodel

Our life has been a little crazy these last couple of months. With just a newborn alone its a big adjustment, but we have also been tackling another change. We decided March of last year to buy the small house we had been living in for the past year and a half. We knew that we would buy the home with plans to change it and make it bigger (knowing that I was pregnant with #4). It took us 6 months to come up with a plan of attack, so in November we started our remodel, and hope to be done first part of March. Our builder has been awesome. He has a ton of enthusiasm for building and does a lot a research. He even has his own blog, and talks about our project here.

Bailey had a birthday party today that was a combined cousins party, so we had two presents to give. It was the perfect excuse to try something I have been dying to try. I had bookmark several tutorials on how to do freezer paper stencils, but this one was my fav.

We bought a couple of cheap shirts from Old Navy and picked up some fabric paint at the craft store. I think they turned out pretty cute, and am now dreaming of all the endless stencil possibilities.

We've made it through a whole week of school, and we even did it without Ian. Summer was great. We took it easy this summer, and decided as a family to not do any lessons. Partly to save money, but also in an attempt to just slow down and enjoy each other. (I loved it)

(Both the girls wanted converse for school this year. Lizzy chose pink with sparkles and Bailey chose yellow. I think its pretty telling of their personalities.)

This last weekend we went to the South Jordan Equestrian Park to see the horse races at Laurel Brown Racetracks. We met family and hung out watching and feeling the excitement of these amazing animals. We each would make our pick on which horse we thought would win. Some of us made a pick because we liked the sound of the horses name, like Fat Savage or Righteous Chic. And some of us waited to see which horse looked the most excited and anxious to race. It was also fun because it was a small local track which made it easy to get right up close and feel them coming down the runway. So cool!

My mom grew up going to races with her dad, so she really gets into it.

I can't believe she is seven. For some reason this birthday more than others I was in shock of how old she is getting. It just kind of snuck up on me. She has been such a brightness in our lives. The greatest buddy ever.

We made a rainbow cake this year (I LOVE it), with white frosting. It turned out so cute. I found the recipe here. The recipe is for six layers, but we added a layer to make seven.

Winter Skiing

I know that these pictures are really old, but I haven't posted for awhile and I just love these photos. We had so much fun skiing this last winter. It was the second year attempt of skiing for the girls, and this year they were able to ski on their own (but not without lots of falls). That let Ian free to work with Logan. It was so much fun that we were all able to do this activity together. (Now my fear is that the girls will soon pass me up in skiing ability. I'm not very good).

Flower Biscuits for Dinner

Here's a family favorite. You have to try this, they are so good. Lizzy helped me make these

the other night for dinner. I love having breakfast for dinner.

Flower Biscuits

2 c. Flour

3 tsp. Baking Powder

2 tsp. Sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 c. Cold Butter (cut into small pieces)

2/3 c. Cold Milk

Mix the first 4 ingredients together in a bowl. Put cut up butter into flour mixture and mix together with hands until it looks kind of pebbly. Add milk and mix together gently with a fork (be sure to not over mix). Dump mixture onto floured surface and gently with hand flatten to desired thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter (if you don't have I sometimes use a drinking cup to cut out the round biscuit shape).

At this point you want to melt a small bowl of butter, and mix together a bowl of cinnamon and sugar together. Then dip your cut out biscuits into the melted butter and then the cinnamon and sugar. Make sure you dip on both sides.

Cut petals into the biscuit

In the center of each biscuit push in a little well with you thumb, then spoon in your favorite jam or jelly.

Bake in the oven at 450 for 10 min.

For Christmas Lizzy got some glitter cream make-up that she had been asking for. She was nice enough to share with Bailey and a friend one day. They had fun being crazy smearing make-up all over each other (I think they look like zombies). The only problem was that this is what happened the next day when Lizzy woke up in the morning.

She had rashes all over her face and was almost swollen in places. I almost started laughing because for days she had been lathering that make-up on and loving it (gross). Lizzy never does anything half way. She did agree happily however to throw the make-up out, and after a couple of days of Cortizone Cream her rash cleared up quickly.

What a great Halloween Day. The weather was perfect, the costumes were all so adorable and my mom made amazing donuts and chili. It puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. I love Halloween!

Stove Top Popcorn

This is a new favorite at my house, and a great fall treat. Especially when the kids come home from school and want a snack. My sister-in-law showed me how to do this after several failed attempts at trying to do it on my own. So here it is:

Add 2-3 Tbsp Oil (it just needs to cover bottom of pan)

Add 3 kernels of corn and cover with lid until they pop. Then you know its hot enough to add more popcorn

Pop, Pop, Pop

Then add about 1/3 cup of popcorn (make sure the lid is on now)

Move the pan back and forth over the heat so the popcorn will not burn

After its done popping (kind of listen for it like you do with popcorn in the microwave) pour in into a large bowl and while its still hot put on your favorite topping (so it will stick). I like just plain salt, but we also like this Kernel Season's White Cheddar. I like to use white popcorn instead of yellow, I just think it tastes lighter, and I like the texture better than the yellow popcorn.

Well..... the girls are successfully in school. They both were so excited for the school year to start. I don't know if I should take that as an insult or not, but it does make it easier to send my sweeties off when they are excited to go. So far they love their teachers so hopefully it will be a good year for us.

We go up to Canada every summer to see Ian's Grandma. We try to make it up there for Magrath Day's. They celebrate Magrath Day's on the 24th of July, and kids just love it. They make it a big day starting with pancake breakfast, parade, family races, carnival then a big firework show and dancing in the evening. Usually we can get other family members to make the trek up to Canada with us. This year we had several which made it so fun. We decided to camp this time which added to the good times, but was also exhausting. I was very happy to get home to my bed and shower.

We squeezed in a California trip a couple of weeks ago. We had some great family fun, but this poor guy was just simply pooped by the time we got back to Salt Lake. We also had the time change to deal with while we were there. This is Logan the next day after we got back from California. I took him grocery shopping and by the time we got home he was out, and refusing to wake up(he had already had his nap for the day). It took us a couple of days to get him back on schedule.

It was a bright and beautiful day today. I love watching for signs of spring, it means that winter will be coming to an end, hopefully soon.

Lizzy and Logan are thrilled with any chance to go outside and play.

Since we moved back to Utah we have been living at my parents house, but have just recently moved into a little guest house on my parents property. We were able to spend a few days in California a few weeks ago. The Wellers (Ian's sister and family) were there too. We spent a few days just hanging out at good old Huntington Beach--going to the beach, eating at some of our favorite restaurants, and just relaxing at the condo.

Speaking of which, if anyone wants to stay there for a vacation or has family in town and don't quite have enough room for them all and need a nice, clean, fun place to stay email me (hbbeachcondo@gmail.com) and let me know. It is a 2 bed 1 bath condo with a small backyard area. It has a king bed in one bedroom and bunk beds with a trundle in the other. The complex has a pool and hot tub. It is next to a park and is just a short walk to the beach and downtown. We are charging $100/night or $500/week, but are only letting family, friends, and friends of family stay there to try and keep it nice. Also, (for those living in HB) if you are interested in earning a little extra money for cleaning, doing laundry, etc let me know that as well.

Where do I begin, so much has happened since I late posted. I guess I'll start at the most recent. Halloween was so much fun. The girls were so excited the night before Halloween they didn't want to go to bed. They had been looking forward to this day for awhile. They love any reason to have a party and get together with their cousins (we only see them everyday). It was a beautiful day and a even more wonderful night, it was almost California weather.

We did a Peter Pan theme this year: Logan was the crocodile, Lizzy was Tinkerbell, Bailey was Wendy, and Ian and I were going to be Captain Hook and Peter Pan, but we didn't quite get around to it.

We had dinner with family and went trick or treating--it was a great night.

I can't believe the day is almost here. The moving processes has begun and we will be moving back to Utah end of next week. Although I am excited to head back, a part of me is sad. I have had a wonderful time here in Cali, and have many wonderful memories of living here. I will miss it a lot. We met my mothers side of the family in Nebraska. It was so fun to be able to see aunts, uncles and cousins that I hadn't seen for awhile. To quote my cousin "Doors were opened that will never be shut again." We had a great time. When we got there we were extremely exhausted from the travel, but we recovered quickly. We were surprised to find out how green and beautiful Nebraska is. I would have never guessed.

This was suppose to be a relaxing summer for us, but its turning out to be anything but. So, I thought I would do some much needed catching up before things get crazy again. Ian's graduation was great. It was fun to honor him and all of the hard work on this day.
My parent flew out a couple days before graduation to help us celebrate, but had to fly home before graduation. Ian's mom, sister and her husband flew out on graduation day. It was so much fun to have them there with us. Thanks you guys!!

I had so much fun on our little break in St. George that I decided to stay in Utah a while longer. I went home with my parents and stayed with them for a while. FIND YOUR STYLE

I love this show! It's on HGTV on Saturday afternoons. I think this show is so informative. Karen McAloon the host of the show helps a couple find their style by walking them through the process of redesigning a room in their house. First, she walks through their house by herself and finds out what their style is. Then, once she knows their style she helps them find "elements" for the room. An element is a color or finish that they like. For example, furniture color, wall colors, light fixtures and hardware finishes, etc. can all be elements. When they have picked three of these elements they then pick an accent color that compliments the other elements they have chosen. When they have done all this they get to go shopping for their room with the four elements in mind. She helps them all the way through the design process and makes the room look fabulous. And it is totally done in the couple’s style. It is such a good show. It would be so fun to be able to completely redo a room from scratch, with someone's help. I love that she includes the husbands in the show too--because my home is a mix of Ian and me.

Today is Ian's and my 9th year Anniversary. I can't believe how fast time flies by when you just go along with what life has in store. I has been a good 9 year for us. I feel so blessed. I have loved having Ian by my side. He is an amazing man! I can't say that our relationship hasn't had its bumps in the road, but we always come out stronger and closer in the end.

My favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe

It has kind of become a tradition to make cookies with the girls on Sunday nights. We only make one batch on Sunday and put the rest of the dough in the fridge so that we have left overs for other nights during the week. Ian has a huge sweet tooth and I'm afraid its rubbing off on my girls. They think that they can't have dinner without dessert.
Here is the recipe we made tonight. I love this recipe. It was given to me from a friend of mine that I met right after I had Bailey. It has since been one of our very favorites. Ian's especially!

Kristy's Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup shortening
2 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cup flour
1 1/2- 2 cups favorite chocolate chips

Cream together shortening, sugar and egg. Mix in rest of ingredients. Add flour one cup at a time. Bake at 350 for 10 1/2 - 11 min.

Rub baby oil on those smudges or fingerprints on your stainless steel appliances. It polishes it and makes it shine. I love this little trick.

So, if anyone knows how to undo things I would love to know how. I wish I could blame the lateness of this post on the fact that this is my third attempt but I can't . I must apologize I know that people are way over Easter, but this just seems to be the story of my life lately. I'm can't seem to keep on top of anything lately. So here they are our Easter pictures.
We had a great time in Utah. Time just flew by. It just wasn't long enough. We were however able to visit and spend time with family and friends, and thats what matters most.

Grandma and Grandpa in the House

My mom and dad came in town for weekend. I love it when they come. My dad will always take the girls to the park, he is the only person I know who can almost wear Lizzy out. He loves her high energy personality. I think its because she reminds him of himself (my dad still thinks he is a kid, but I love this about him).
My mom is a baby calmer, probably because she had seven of her own. Logan quickly fell in love with his grandma.

When my mom comes in town she will sometimes take the girls to get a pedicure. Its so funny to watch my girls get their nails done. Lizzy gets all giggly and Bailey acts like she been doing this sort of thing for years.

Sunday I had been fighting a bad headache, but felt better in the evening so we decided to get out and go sit on the beach.

I almost took the offer, but decided we needed some quality family time. I'm glad I decided to go . We had a great time together, and Logan was a trooper. He ended on sleeping most of the day.

I love that I feel like I can be totally lazy on Super Bowl Sunday. We just stayed home and watched the game at our house. So since I knew I wasn't going anywhere I came home and got all comfy in my sweats. The girls loved all of the treats. They actually remembered from last year all of the sugar and snacks they were aloud to have on this day. They were very excited. I knew nothing about the teams that were playing this year. I have 5 brothers and a mother who is obsessed with sports, so its weird to be out of the loop on the sports world. We had a great time, and loved being together as a family.

Ian and I packed the kids up and went to the Mitt Romney rally in Fountain Valley today. This is something I could see my mom doing. She loves politics mostly because she cares so much about this great country. We came late and were not able to get a spot inside, but Ian was able to get a profile shot of him walking to his car.

I had to post this picture. It made me laugh. Lizzy decided to go outside and play. When I went to check on her I found her hugged up against the door doing this. What is she doing? Well thats why its so funny. The story starts like this. We had a couple of days of hard rain. When the rain let up Ian decided to take the girls out on a bike ride to the park. They got on their bikes and put on their helmets. Lizzy kept complaining that a worm was tickling her neck. Ian shrugged it off and said " oh there isn't a worm". Just as he said this he looked at her and said out loud "it is a worm". Lizzy flipped out. Ian said he had never seen her so scared before. He shook her helmet and worms keep falling out. (I guess Lizzy left her helmet out in the rain.) So here it is Lizzy's greatest fear a little squirmy worm. Its hard to even get her to go outside when it rains. She screams at the sight of a worm. It's so funny!

I love Utah! It really is so beautiful. We had a great Christmas break. We spent lots of time with family. We were even able to bless Logan the Sunday before Christmas. It was so nice to have all of the great men from both side of our family there to bless our little guy.

We had a great Thanksgiving. My parents were in town for the whole week. It was so fun to have family here. They were able to spend a lot of time playing with the girls and getting to know their new grandson. It was beautiful here in Huntington. My dad took some really great pictures, so sorry there are so many. My mom helped me make a really great Thanksgiving meal. Wimped out on making a turkey this year. We ended up buying a Honey Baked Ham Turkey. It was so yummy! We did however make everything else. So fun to have my mom here and spend some time with her in the kitchen. I just love her. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Halloween was not what I had planned. Do you ever have great plans for how you want the day to go and it just doesn't seem to go the way you had envisioned? I love getting the girls all decked out on Halloween and pictures taken before dark. Then sit down for a nice fall dinner before Treater Tricking. This year the evening felt a little rushed. I was a little disapointed. Anyway here are some shots of the girls. No pictures of Logan. We had a costume, but he wasn't in the mood for all of the Halloween festivities.

What up ladies? Since Aspen's post was such a downer, I'll add that me and the girls had a blast. We went trick or treating downtown and the girls got a ton of candy. We came home and had chili and wassel (some ciderey drink). I was a cowboy, like usual.

I love Halloween. It so fun and playful. Lizzy thought these teeth were so funny. They actually were given to Bailey but Lizzy can't put them down. I love how my children are so night and day different.

As sweet as these days are getting to know my new baby I was feeling the need to get out of the house. Saturday we decided to go for a walk and ended up downtown. To our surprise there was a car show going on. So we walk up and down looking at all of the cool cars. We even scored with a free funnel cake. Yum! The guy said he needed the advertisement. It was a beautiful day and it felt really good to get out.

Here he is! THAT'S RIGHT IT's A BOY! He still doesn't have a name. Ian and I just can't agree on a name. It's getting really ridiculous. Hopefully soon! We all love him so much. The delivery went well. I went into labor on the 10th of October. He weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces. I have never gone into labor on my own before so I was very unprepared for it (I was induced with both Bailey and Eliza). I panicked a little when I realized that Ian was at least an hour away and as some of you might know we are a one car family so I had no way to get to the hospital We both started making phone calls like crazy. Thanks to Korie Ebmeyer who left in the middle of a doctor appt I met up with Ian and made it safelye. We are so excited to have him here. The girls are so cute with him and simply adore him.

Okay, I think its official. I can't find our camera anywhere. I have always wondered how that happens. I know exactly where it was before we moved. I know that we cleared everything out of our old place. So, where in the world did it go? I guess now I'm on the search for a new camera. Let me know if you have any suggestion on looking for a new one.
Well we are headed to Utah again. We leave on Sunday. Ian has business to take care of and also his brother comes home from his mission. I wish I could be saying we were going to Mexico, Europe or Hawaii. Its looking as though Utah is my only vacation spot this year.
I am getting so excited for this baby to come into our home. It has been a roller coaster pregnancy, but now that things have settled down and I can daydream about what this next little one is going to bring to our home. As of now I'm about 30 weeks and my belly is getting large. Its the weirdest thing if I stand straight in front of the mirror I still have my waistline and I don't look very pregnant. If I turn to the side to see my profile it looks like I should be having my baby tomorrow. Its crazy!
Hopefully I can get this whole camera thing worked out and I can post some pictures soon.

I'M BACK

We have been visiting family in Utah for the last month with no camera. I'm so sad I have no pictures to show, and so much went on. During our visit to Utah Ian flew back for a couple of days and moved us out of Mora Kai and into a tiny 2 bedroom one bath condo in Huntington. At least its ours. We actually really love it. I have missed being a home owner.
We had a great 4th of July. Stuffing ourselves silly and playing with family. We also enjoyed a Dunn family tradition and went to the Stadium of Fire. Once the sun went down it was much more enjoyable. It was sooooo.... hot. I passed by someone to get to my seat and brushed against someones sweaty arm. Pretty fun! We did actually really enjoy ourselves. We loved watching our girls play with their cousins.
Its good to be home! We are trying to get settled and organized. I'll post pictures as soon as possible. I'm afraid we might have lost our camera in the move. But we are still looking.

Night Out

We had our 8 year anniversary this last week. Ian surprised me with a wonderful night out. I had so much fun. Although the start to the evening was stressful, as we both were franticly running around trying to get things taken care of so we could leave for the evening. It ended up to be the perfect evening. I had been hinting to Ian for months that I would really like to go see Wicked. I got my wish.

When we first got up to LA we stopped in for a bite at Musso and Franks Grill. This was recommended to us as not the best food ever, but an experience because its one of the oldest restaurants in LA, and it was just that. We also chose it because it was is just down the street from the Pantages Playhouse, and we were in a hurry.Ian and I both got steak and potatoes. Ian's steak was the biggest steak I have ever seen.

We had a great night. Wicked was amazing. It was one of the best musicals I have ever been to. Although I have only been to a handful, this one differently will be one that I will remember and would love to see again.

New baby on the way!

Here I go! My first attempt in blogging. Thanks to my friend Heidi and her encouragement. I have doubts whether I can keeps this up. I also have to admit I'm a little intimidated by other blogs I have seen. They are all so cute and perfect. So, I'll take this in baby steps. Speaking of babies....we are expecting our 3rd baby in October. The girls couldn't be more excited I can't keep them from talking, and touching my belly. I actually really love that they can't wait for our new arrival. It makes it so much more fun. I am now about 17 weeks along, and am feeling great. Next week I will be going in for an ultrasound and am anxious for the results.
Last week we had Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins in town. It was so much fun to have them here. We didn't plan too much so it was a nice relaxing trip for everyone. We were able to spend more time just hanging out. We did however spend a half day at Disneyland with them going on Buzz Light Year, It's a Small World, and getting sick on Tea Cups. My dad was amazed by Soaring Over California. He Loved it! We really have enjoyed the chance to spend time with different family members, as they have come to visit us. I look back on each one with happy memories of having them here.

I can't believe how big the girls are getting. Bailey is starting to notice my lack of style, or lack of caring sometimes. Just the other day she asked me why I had bangs. As to say they don't look very good on you. Then she said "Mom, when we get home I think you should put your hair back." I feel that Bailey has grown up a lot in this last year. I have mixed feelings about it. Its fun to see her growing up exploring and discovering new things. But it's is hard for me to let go. I love my girls so much and don't want them to be sad or get hurt. Lizzy is getting so big as well. She was so excited on our last trip to Disneyland that she was tall enough to go on some of the big kid rides. I just can't believe she is going to be 4. It has been so fun to have Lizzy home with me in the mornings. I have discovered that she is very good at cleaning and organizing. She is my little buddy in the mornings, making beds, clearing off breakfast and helping me fold clothes.
